I often get asked this question: “Do I have to have a bridal
party for my wedding?” The short answer is: no. But what you do need to
have are two witnesses to your ceremony, but these do not have to be members of
a bridal party. The witnesses just need to know who you are and be over 18
years of age.
Some couples just have these nominated witnesses come forward at the time of the signing of the three wedding certificates. This choice certainly simplifies the day and it does keep the cost down, with not having to buy bridesmaid dresses, shoes etc.
Of course, couples do often go down the traditional road and they very much enjoy having their bridal party and that this entails, but if you do not want this, then don’t do it. It’s your wedding, please do it your way.
